How Can Plustar Help?
With over 35 years of experience in tapes and packaging, Plustar has seen almost every tape challange and packaging problem. Leveraging our extensive supplier base and custom converting capabilities allows us to find the right solution for any challange.
The Industry: Electrical - Tools/Components/Measurement
The Challenge: Repetitive Tape Tabbing - Finding a solution for a high volume taping application and remaining sensitive to employee retention. The initial taping process used a piece of Kraft paper carton sealing tape that was being manually pulled and torn from a table top dispenser. Each employee in the fulfillment department tabbed 500+ boxes closed per day.
Our Approach: Plustar examined all the components of the application that would need to be altered to reach the customer's goal:
- 1) Need a way to get more boxes tabbed per day
- 2) Need a controlled amount of tape per box to monitor usage and create a consistent seal
- 3) Wanted a way to get the tape on the boxes straight and in a way that was aesthetically pleasing to their customer
The Solution: Plustar supplied the company with multiple automatic tape dispensing machines that were more suitable for their application and fit within their budget. These machines more rapidly provide a pre-measured, perfectly cut tape that is ergonomically presented to the applicator for accurate application every time. No employee jobs were lost, while efficiency and output saw an immediate improvement of order processing by more than 15%.
"The automatic tape dispensing machines recommended by Plustar have worked wonders for our business. It makes the day easier on my employees; more boxes get done in a shift; and I have seen minimal wasted tape." — Howard F. (Operations Manager)
The Industry: Retail Distribution Center
The Challenge: Case Marking - Our customer ships to thousands of retail stores across the country. Within each shipment, unique cases had to be marked as "samples" in a manner that would allow them to be easily identified within the pallet both at the main distribution center and retail store. Our customer had used custom printed cartons in the past, but found the different sizes expensive and hard to inventory.
Our Approach: An evaluation of the specific marking requirements and application methods (hand and machine taping) were discussed and considered with designing the final solution.
The Solution: Plustar worked with our client to help design a custom printed tape that could be easily applied (by hand or machine) and visible on all sides of the sample cases. The custom printed tape alleviated the need for costly printed boxes and allowed for one tape design to be used on any of the customer's box sizes. The new tape serves double duty by securing the box as well as identifying the contents.
"Plustar designed a tape that was perfect for our needs!" — Brenda T. (Purchasing)
The Industry: Metal Fabrication
The Challenge: Masking - Customer required a tape to mask and protect aluminum formed into narrow strips during a painting operation. Tape must be available in various tight tolerance widths, long lengths, and conform to a profiled surface. The adhesive needed to resist outgassing if exposed to UV radiation (sunlight), and still remove easily, leaving no residue.
Our Approach: Consultation with the customer's designers, engineers and production equipment operators, including observation of the manufacturing operations, allowed Plustar to determine critical performance characteristics and suitable application methods. Initial sampling and testing was performed to confirm acceptable properties of several tapes. Custom slit samples were produced for testing in the customers process.
The Solution: A thin, highly conformable adhesive tape, resistant to paints and solvents, custom slit in narrow width rolls to a tolerance of +/- 0.010”, in long lengths up to 3000 feet.
"Not only did Plustar help us find the right tape and adhesive system for the job, but they were able to use their custom converting capabilities to provide extra long rolls and help us reduce downtime." — Jerry K. (Production Manager)
