Case Study 1

Food & Beverage Distributor

Product Identification Solution - A large distributor of food & beverages located in the DFW area was looking at a way to quickly identify and differentiate pallets of product being shipped between multiple warehouse locations. Unidentifiable pallets were resulting in loss of sales, missed deadlines and potential lost suppliers. They needed to find a highly visible and cost-effective solution that would be easy to understand, simple to implement and cost effective.

Plustar explored taking advantage of its in-house Production Department to custom print a tape product to the specific requirements for their application.

The Solution:

Plustar custom printed a new pallet identification tape utilizing unique colors and prints for each ware house location. The new tapes made locating the supplier’s product, quick and easy and eliminated hard to identify mixed loads, ensuring on-time delivery and eliminating potential lost business.

The new printed tapes also help to advertise the clients brand in the field and provide a layer of tamper evidence to reduce theft.

Plustar’s custom printing and converting capabilities along with its quick concept- to-market response time solved their challenge.

Case Study 2

Web Processing

Customer is processing heavy paper in a wide width coating line and performing a flying core start in a fully automatic turret rewinder. Web speed is 500 FPM and the treated paper is wound on reusable aluminum mandrels. A double coated tape was in use but often failed to adhere to the treated paper, creating scrap material or shut down. In addition, upon removal of the tape, a heavy adhesive residue remained on the mandrels requiring expensive clean up.

Consultation with the customers process engineers and equipment operators involving on site observation, allowed us to determine the specific properties necessary for successful core starting and eliminate cleaning of the mandrels. A project team was formed and several solutions developed and evaluated.

Samples of two products were prepared and tested on the customers equipment. This led to further development and a final product was sampled, tested and approved.

The Solution:

A double coated tape with easy to remove release liner, supplied in rolls for hand application. Tape is applied to the empty mandrel in a spiral pattern and the liner removed. A clean removal adhesive adheres the tape to the mandrel while the exposed high tack adhesive provides an immediate bond to the treated web as it is cut fed to the mandrel, with no interruption or reduction to the speed of the coating line.
